Hello from our Chair

A warm welcome to GraceNotes Acapella.

Here at GraceNotes there is nothing we love more than performing, entertaining, competing, and sharing our enthusiasm for acapella harmony. As a hobby, singing is incredibly rewarding and good for the soul. It brings benefits to each of us, not least of all in the form of fun and friendship.

As a chorus we meet at Burraton Community Centre, Saltash, every Monday evening to rehearse and hone our craft, and hold regular ‘sectionals’ when members of a particular voice part get together to practice (and more often than not, eat cake!). We also organise retreats when we all go away for a weekend to work on our songs, have coaching, and enjoy some fun and games in the evenings. Our relationships with each other are important, so we organise regular social events to let our hair down too. We’re also big supporters of our community and good causes, and regularly raise money for charity.

As a group we belong to a UK-wide community of singers who are all members of the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers. With a membership of over 50 groups just like ours, LABBS provide support, education, and coaching to all its members. LABBS also host an annual convention – the highlight of our year – when around 2,000 singers get together from across the UK to compete, celebrate singing in harmony, and to socialise.

Musically, we are passionate about our wonderful artform, and pride ourselves in our professionalism, drive, and commitment to being the best we can be. We work hard to learn our songs and develop our vocal skills, ensuring that whenever we sing, we give audiences a performance they love to hear. This dedication to what we do paid off in 2022 when, for the first time in our history, we competed and secured a place as one of the UK's top ten choruses, and came home with two awards.

We’re also passionate about our community and local good causes. We’re currently championing Your Voice, Cornwall, an organisation which offers peer support groups, activities, and other resources to help women from across Cornwall come together and support one another in their mental health journeys.

I do hope you’ll enjoy spending time looking around our website, getting to know us a little better, and getting a taste of what we do. Perhaps you’ll be inspired to think about singing yourself, or to book us to perform at your event. We’d be delighted to welcome you to a rehearsal or entertain at your function, so please do get in touch to find out more.

In harmony,
